The Federal Government has announced plans to strengthen the monitoring and execution of federal road projects beginning in 2026, as part of efforts to improve delivery timelines and project quality nationwide.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this in his New Year message, stating that the ministry would adopt a more results driven approach to road construction and rehabilitation in the coming year. He said the focus would be on tightening supervision, improving coordination and ensuring that ongoing projects translate into tangible benefits for Nigerians.
According to the minister, the proposed adjustments are aimed at building on progress already made under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the road infrastructure sector, which remains a key pillar of the administration’s development strategy.
Umahi explained that the ministry would realign its internal processes to support faster execution of both legacy projects and routine rehabilitation works across federal highways. He noted that enhanced monitoring systems would be deployed to track performance and eliminate delays.
He assured that 2026 would see more rigorous oversight of contractors, clearer timelines for delivery and closer collaboration among stakeholders involved in road development.
The minister also commended President Tinubu for providing leadership that has enabled reforms in the sector, pointing to alternative funding arrangements and increased private sector involvement as major contributors to ongoing improvements in road infrastructure.
Umahi urged staff of the Federal Ministry of Works to remain united and dedicated to the ministry’s mandate, stressing that professionalism and optimism would be crucial to achieving set targets. He also extended goodwill to Nigerians, expressing hope for a peaceful and prosperous 2026.
