Community Relief as Minister Intervenes in Health Crisis Affecting Goronyo Local Government

Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has delivered emergency medical supplies worth millions of naira to communities in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, in response to the recent cholera outbreak affecting the region.

The intervention, coming at a critical time, is aimed at strengthening local health systems and saving lives as the waterborne disease continues to spread across affected communities.

Residents, community leaders, and health workers welcomed the gesture, describing it as a reflection of the minister’s compassion and deep sense of duty to his people.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Maryam Sanusi, fnipr, said the minister’s humanitarian gesture underscored his long-standing commitment to community welfare beyond his ministerial role.

During the presentation, the Chairman of Goronyo Local Government, Engr. Zubairu Yari Goronyo, represented by the Deputy Director of Health, applauded the minister’s action, calling it “a timely and compassionate response to a public health challenge.”

“The Honourable Minister has always been close to his people. This donation is another proof of his concern for the wellbeing of Goronyo and Sokoto State,” he said.

The relief items include antibiotics, intravenous fluids, oral rehydration salts, multivitamins, and sanitary materials, all vital in treating cholera cases and curbing further infections.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Goronyo, Alhaji Saidu Muhammad, also praised the minister’s effort, describing it as “leadership that listens and acts.”

“This is what leadership should look like—service, compassion, and genuine concern for humanity,” he said, urging other office holders to follow Goronyo’s example.

Representing the minister, Dr. Aliyu Garba reaffirmed Goronyo’s personal commitment to the wellbeing of his people.

“We remain proud of our son, Bello Goronyo, whose service continues to inspire hope. May Allah bless him with the strength to do even more,” Garba said.

Officials of non-governmental organizations who witnessed the distribution hailed the move as “a model of responsive leadership,” adding that empathy and proactive action remain crucial in addressing Nigeria’s public health challenges.
