The Zone 7 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force has marked the 2026 Children’s Day celebration with a series of community-focused activities across the Federal Capital Territory, aimed at promoting child welfare, safety awareness and stronger police-community relations.
Led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya, the celebration was held under the theme “Let’s Make a Child Smile” and featured school engagements, visits to care homes, and interactive sessions designed to encourage trust between children and law enforcement officers.
The outreach activities, which spanned several locations in Abuja, included child safety sensitisation campaigns in schools, “Meet a Police Officer” sessions where students interacted directly with officers, as well as visits to motherless babies’ homes. Educational materials and food items were also distributed to children during the engagements.
According to the Police authorities, the initiative aligns with broader efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthen community policing, deepen public engagement, and promote youth development across the country.
AIG Olaiya noted that children remain central to the future of a safer society, stressing the importance of creating an environment that supports their growth, learning and protection. He reaffirmed the commitment of the command to people-oriented policing strategies that encourage collaboration between security agencies, schools, families and community leaders.
He also appreciated partners and stakeholders who supported the outreach programmes, describing their contributions as key to ensuring the success of the celebration and the impact recorded across beneficiary communities.
The Zone 7 Command urged parents, educators and community leaders to continue working closely with the Police in safeguarding children and strengthening preventive security efforts across the FCT.
