The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State has reached a consensus on a candidate for the Kyan State Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
One of the aspirants, Solomon Saaondo Ayado, has formally withdrawn from the contest following the party’s decision.
In a press statement, Ayado said the resolution was taken by APC stakeholders in Vandeikya LGA after consultations on zoning and consensus arrangements for the constituency.
He, however, noted that the process did not fully reflect fairness and balance, particularly with regard to Mbagbera Council Ward, which he said was excluded in the arrangement.
Ayado had earlier been involved in mobilising support under the Mbagbera for Kyan Assembly Movement (MKAM) 2027, a socio-political group advocating equitable zoning and rotation of the constituency seat.
As spokesperson of the movement, he said MKAM’s position was rooted in the call for fairness, equity, and adherence to what it described as an existing rotational understanding in the constituency.
He maintained that the movement was not opposed to any individual aspirant but sought recognition of Mbagbera’s turn in the zoning arrangement.
However, APC stakeholders reportedly concluded that Mbagbera Ward would not produce the 2027 candidate, with indications that the opportunity may shift to 2031.
Following the decision, Ayado said he consulted with his family and supporters before accepting the outcome in deference to party supremacy.
He described his decision as one of discipline and respect for constituted authority, stressing that politics should not be treated as a do-or-die affair.
Ayado also announced his withdrawal as spokesperson of MKAM 2027, effectively stepping away from the advocacy group he previously led.
He urged his supporters to remain calm and continue to support the party, expressing appreciation for their backing during his aspiration.
Despite exiting the race, he said he would remain active in community development and public service within the constituency.
The development reflects ongoing zoning negotiations within party structures in Benue politics ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
