As Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja, has urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State to celebrate responsibly while remaining vigilant and security conscious, even as it commended them for their peaceful conduct throughout the just-concluded Ramadan.
In a statement on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Halima, the Zone 7 Command of the Nigeria Police Force expressed appreciation to residents for their patience, discipline, and support throughout the fasting period.
The command attributed the relative peace and security experienced across the zone during Ramadan to the cooperation of the public and their respect for law and order.
The statement also praised officers and personnel of the Zone 7 Command, including those serving in the FCT and Niger State, for their professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property during the period.
The police cautioned against reckless driving and emphasized strict adherence to traffic regulations, especially during the festive period when movement is expected to increase. It also advised residents to remain alert in crowded areas such as mosques, markets, and event centres, and to promptly report any suspicious movements or objects to security agencies.
Parents and guardians were further encouraged to closely monitor their children, while residents traveling for the holidays were advised to ensure that their homes and properties are properly secured.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the police stated that adequate personnel and operational resources would be deployed across strategic locations within the zone to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid celebration.
The command also acknowledged the support of community leaders, religious institutions, and media organizations in strengthening police-community relations, stressing the importance of continued collaboration in building a safer society.
