ABUJA – A dramatic confrontation unfolded on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a Military Officer in Gaduwa, Abuja, over alleged illegal land acquisition. The standoff, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, shows the officer refusing to yield even as Wike demanded he leave the disputed site.
The clash comes against the backdrop of ongoing land enforcement by the FCT Administration, which had earlier issued a 14-day grace period, effective November 11, 2025, for property owners in Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse districts to regularize land titles and pay a ₦5 million violation fee. According to the FCT Administration, failure to comply within the grace period would result in enforcement actions. The affected streets include Gana Street and Usuma Street in Maitama; Yakubu Gowon Crescent in Asokoro; Aminu Kano Crescent and Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent in Wuse II; Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya Street, and Onitsha Street in Garki II; as well as Ogbomosho Street, Lafia Close, Yola Street, Abriba Close, Danbatta Street, Ringim Close, and Ilorin Street in Garki I.
During the confrontation, Wike is heard saying, “Because you are an officer? Nobody does that!” and later calling the officer a fool. The officer, standing his ground, responded firmly, “I am not a fool!” He also defended his position regarding the disputed land, stating, “I am an officer with integrity. Everything was acquired legally.” Eyewitnesses described the encounter as a rare display of courage, with the officer refusing to yield under pressure while others reportedly stayed silent.
Since taking office in August 2023, Wike has maintained a strong stance on enforcing the Abuja Master Plan and addressing unauthorized land allocations. Critics, however, point to allegations of favoritism in land transfers to family members and political associates, raising questions about fairness and consistency in governance.
