The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday commissioned two new divisional headquarters in the Durumi and Galadimawa districts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of efforts to improve policing and strengthen security infrastructure in Abuja.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, said the newly commissioned divisional headquarters would improve the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force, support faster emergency response and strengthen engagement with residents. The position was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Zone 7 Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Halima Mohammed, following the commissioning ceremony where the IGP was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Victor Olaiya.

He said the new headquarters were designed to provide a better working environment for officers and enhance intelligence gathering, community policing and overall service delivery.

Olaiya noted that modern policing requires functional infrastructure, adding that the two divisions would help the police respond more effectively to security concerns in the affected communities.

He urged officers posted to the divisions to uphold professionalism, discipline, integrity and respect for human rights, stressing that public confidence in the police would depend on the quality of service they render.

The police chief also appealed to residents of the FCT to continue supporting security agencies with useful and timely information, saying crime prevention is more effective when communities work closely with law enforcement.

He acknowledged the contributions of the Nigeria Police Force Property Development and Construction Company Limited, project developers Odernix Nigeria Limited and Anon Global Properties Nigeria Limited, as well as the Federal Capital Territory Administration, traditional rulers and community leaders for their roles in the successful completion of the projects.

The IGP reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to upgrading policing infrastructure, improving officers’ welfare and expanding technology-driven policing across the country.

Senior police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and representatives of partner organisations attended the commissioning ceremonies.
