CSO Back NBC On Suspension,Fine On Channels TV

A civil society group,Media Watch has praised the timely decision of NBC on the suspension from air wave and fine of 5 Million naira against the Channels Television.

A statement signed by the Chairman of the group,Mohammed Oluwatiseyi condemned in strongest terms the affront of the outlawed IPOB leaders and negative utterances against Nigeria leadership and the army.

Seyi maintained that Nigeria cannot afford such an instigative statement from IPOB at this critical time of serious securtiy challenges,while asking the NBC not to rescind it’s decisions.

He says the patriotic decision of NBC has nothing to do with plans to gag the media and it’s freedom,stating that freedom of the press is not meant to create crises and uneasy calm in Nigeria.

He warned on the consequences of IPOB leaders bringing to a halt the commercial and business status of the Eastern states,stating that the dissident group agitations is already hijacked by some elements.

He appealed to the NBC not to spare any broadcasting station that negate it’s regulatory provisions, particularly in breach of the broadcast code and act.
