AL-ANSAR UNIVERSITY, MAIDUGURI APPOINTS PIONEER VICE-CHANCELLOR PROFESSOR ABUBAKAR MUSA KUNDIRI

In accordance with the First Schedule Section 3 (4) of the law Establishing Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, 2022, the Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of Professor Abubakar Musa Kundiri as the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri with immediate effect.

The appointment letter which was signed by the Chairman Board of Trustees, Alhaji Muhammad Adam, MFR, was after due approval by both the Governing Council and Board of Trustees based on recommendation of the Selection Board Chaired by Professor Isa Marte, Hussaini as well as Department of State Security Services (DSS) security clearance.

By this development, the new Vice-Chancellor is expected to assume office on Wednesday 15th, June, 2022 to immediately commence academic activities as well as project and protect the image of the young promising university in this country and beyond.

Professor Abubakar Musa Kundiri is a Professor of Soil & Water Management and currently a visiting Professor at National Universities Commission (NUC) Abuja. He attended University of Maiduguri between 1989-1991 where he obtained B. Sc. Agriculture and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) Degree in Soil and Water Management from Cranfield University, United Kingdom 1991-1995.

Professor Kundiri started his academic career as Graduate Assistant in the Department of Soil Science, University of Maiduguri and Promoted to Professor in 2006. He was also the Dean Students’ Affairs Division, University of Maiduguri between 2004-2009. He participated in carrying out special assignments and related technical studies involving diverse national and international organizations such as International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the European Union, the World Bank, UNESCO as well as Federal and State Government agencies in Nigeria.

Over the years, Professor Kundiri has been involved in addressing administrative challenges in the University System. He was a pioneer staff of the Federal University, Dutse where he served as Dean of Agriculture as well as Dean of Students’ Affairs 2011-2016. He was also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), acting for the Vice-Chancellor on various occasions and taking on special assignments to help in the growth of the young University. He actively participated and involved in special projects, promoting collaboration and external funding sources for the University of Maiduguri and Federal University, Dutse.

He was appointed Vice-Chancellor Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State in 2016 by the Governing Council of the University and some few weeks after, he was appointed as Vice-Chancellor Federal University Wukari, Taraba State by the Federal Government.

He is a member of a number of Scientific Societies including the Professional Soil Scientists, West African Farming Systems Research Network, International Union of Soil Sciences and Fellow of Soil Science Society of Nigeria. He is also on the Editorial Board of a number of Journals.

Professor Kundiri has been a recipient of Scholarship and Fellowship Awards including, the European Union for Doctoral Degree, African Education Trust, Sir Earnest Carsell Trust, Federal Government of Nigeria, Borno State Government and the University of Maiduguri.

Professor Kundiri has performed a number of other public service assignments. Among these are Board Member of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), as Chairman of Committee of Chief Examiners in addition to serving as the Chief Examiner for Taraba State, Member of the National Research Committee of TETFund and in 2021, he was appointed the Chairman of the TETFund National Research Fund Screening & Monitoring Committee (NRFS & MC) which oversea the analyses, disbursement and monitoring of research grants under the National Research Fund (NRF).

During the 2019 General Elections, he was the Presidential Returning Officer for Yobe State as well as the Gubernatorial Returning Officer for the same State.

Professor Kundiri is a keen sportsman, enjoys reading, travelling and married with children.
