The Webster Dictionary Deluxe encyclopedia defines e – payment as payment that is made directly to payee from a bank account using security method.

E – payment is also referred to in Information and Communication Technology ( ICT) parlance as a digital payment for a transaction made on the Internet.

The introduction of electronic payment otherwise known as e – payment years ago by the Nasarawa State Government has not only eased the problem associated with payment of teachers salaries but has also helped the State Government to block some drain pipes through which public funds were being diverted by those saddle with the responsibility of processing the teachers salaries.

In the past, public primary school teachers in the state were neglected because of the archaic processes they were subjected to in the payment of their salaries.

For instance, when other workers are being paid salaries across the state, primary school teachers had to wait until the end of the new month to get their salaries.

More often than not such payments are usually made after several unexplained and illegal deduction from various quarters.

However, former Governor, Nasarawa State, now Senator Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Nasarawa South senatorial district and an aspirant for All Progressive Congress(APC) National Chairman, pledge to adopt the e – payment system of salary administration has brought great respite and the needed succour to primary school teachers as they now collect their salaries at the same time with other civil servants in the state.

At this juncture, it could be recalled that when former Governor, Al – makura came on board( then) he issued an executive directive aimed at ensuring that teachers across the state collect their salaries first but the order hit a brick wall after which he suggested the use of table payment as a way out but that too was not successful either.

To make good the former Governor’s pledge, the Management of Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board constituted a committee on e – payment to investigate the multiple illegal deduction from teachers salaries monthly and the prompt implementation and payment of other remuneration for the teachers.

But worthy of commendation is the role played by Members, Management and Staff of the board whom they dared the cabal that frustrated government’s plan to implement the e – payment of teachers salaries.

Thanks to former Governor and Senator Federal Republic of Nigeria Alh. Umaru Tanko Al- makura( Sardaunan Gwandara) for the tacitly support he gave the Members, Management and Staff, such that teachers in this state now heave a sigh of relief and beat their chests as first among equals.

Therefore, teachers in the state should as a matter of fact reciprocate the gesture through hard work, determination, humility and honesty in discharging their official responsibilities.

The present administration under the able leadership of Engr. Abdullahi Sule, Executive Governor, Nasarawa state deserves commendation for its commitment to education without whose support, all the achievements the board has recorded would not have been possible.

These and many related strides are indeed unique to the present administration of Abdullahi Sule’s administration and the Executive Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Muhammad Musa Dan’azimi( Barayan Daddare).

Indeed, there is need for all and sundry to identify and play their respective roles in the education Enterprise, conscious of the fact that education has no option.

No doubt, education is an asset of infinite value which is why ” Education For All is the Responsibility of All”.
