Permanent Secretary Of The Ministry Is Culpable

Nigerian Transparency Movement (NTM), has written a strong worded petition to the new Head of Service Of The Federation, Dr Olayemi Esan over the refusal of Permanent secretary,Director of Finance and Administration of the Ministry of Special Duties to pay contractors for jobs already executed since 2018.

A statement issued by Abdullahi Abdulhakeem on behalf of the major and minor contractors raised alarm against some top goverrment functionaries in the Ministry,who instead of making payments for jobs already executed, prefer to award new ones that capture their interests.

 

This situation according to the contractors had rendered them stranded in assessing the funds borrowed from the Banks to execute the various projects and contracts, running into Billions of naira since 2018.

Some contractors of the Ministry who does not want their names in print, for fear of victimisation by top goverrment officials,says all efforts to recover the contract funds for over two years prove abortive,urging the Head of Service of the Federation to call it’s officials to order.

 

According to the body,the accounting officers of the Ministry and some officials deliberately hid the actual facts from the Minister,so that funds meant for the purpose will be tied down for possible diversion and embezzlement.

 

This situation has rendered the once glorious contractors of the Ministry paupers and running from pillar to pole over their inability to meet both personal and Banks obligations.

He appealed to the Head of Service to come to the aid of the contractors to avoid sharp practices and unravel the basic facts,as it was done in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, were over 7 Billion was cornered by the Permanent secretary.
